Error 404 model not found: pick the right model ID for Claude Code, Codex, Cline
Error 404 model not found with RocketKey: wrong model ID, retired model or wrong base URL. How to get the exact model ID for each tool.
Updated 20 Oct 2026
Error 404 usually reads model not found, Invalid model name or 404 Not Found.
model not found / Invalid model name
- Cause
- The model ID in your configuration doesn't match RocketKey's model list (typo, missing suffix, or a display name instead of the ID).
- Fix
- Open the Models page, click the copy button next to the model ID and paste it unchanged into your tool's configuration.
Model no longer offered
- Cause
- The provider retired the model or it was removed from the list.
- Fix
- Pick a replacement from the same family on the Models page.
404 Not Found on every request
- Cause
- Wrong base URL: a missing or extra /v1.
- Fix
- Claude Code uses the base URL without /v1; Codex, Cline and Cursor use it with /v1. See each tool's guide.
Model ID per tool
- Claude Code: the
ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_SONNET_MODELvariable (or_OPUS_,_HAIKU_). Claude models only. See the Claude Code guide. - Codex: the
model = "…"line in~/.codex/config.toml. See the Codex guide. - Cline: the Model ID field of the OpenAI Compatible provider. See the Cline guide.
